My Doppelganger

Okay, so I don’t post a lot on Free Pants lately. My travels basically ended and now I’m trying to get back into the “real world” (whatever that is). If I was more motivated, then I would treat this blog like most people treat their blogs and share amusing or interesting aspects of their regular lives. Maybe I can start that by sharing the story about my doppelganger.

For those that don’t know, a doppelganger is kind of like your twin. The formal definition may be a bit fancier than that, but I’ve always been one to abuse language for my personal amusement, so that’s what I’m going to say.

This doppelganger is no game. He’s real. I met him. It was weird.

I was at Sean Munro and Yasaman Shaygogani’s wedding in Cambridge last night. It was a wedding in a butterfly conservatory. Sean and Yasaman wanted everyone to know that since the wedding ceremony was in a greenhouse with countless butterflies and birds fluttering and dive-bombing the guests, it wasn’t important to dress your “nicest” and dress comfortably instead. I took this advice as saying something like, “Wearing a suit is a bad idea. Dress more casually!”

Okay, so I did the unthinkable: I wore jeans to a wedding. At first I was felt a bit self-conscious. Most people were still dressed-up somewhat: men in black pants, pressed shirts, and neck ties. What have I done? Have I disgraced my friends on their special day?

The night took a strange turn after that. While waiting in the corridor before the ceremony, Keizo told me that there was someone else wearing jeans. This other man took casual to a new level. He was wearing sandals, too! Clearly, this man was a role model for society. I had to go talk to him.

It turns out that his name was also Rob! He had darker skin, just like me! He had dark curly hair, just like me! He wore glasses, just like me! He travelled in a very-bum-like-fashion in Asia, just like me. IT’S LIKE HE WAS MY TWIN!
